Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT)

Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) is a unique treatment for children and their caregivers, designed to effectively target oppositional, disruptive behaviors within a time-limited format. Through a combination of didactics and live-coaching sessions, PCIT equips parents and caregivers with concrete skills to improve the caregiver-child relationship, increase pro-social behaviors, and decrease problematic behaviors. PCIT has also been successfully adapted for other childhood disorders, such as anxiety and selective mutism.

Caregiver Training & Coaching

Parents and Caregivers of individuals in treatment are often at a loss for how to support their loved one. They may feel they are “walking on eggshells” around a family member in order to avoid triggering an argument or “making things worse” in some way. They may carry an enormous weight of raising a child whose emotional experiences and expressions are vastly different than that of their peers; one for whom traditional parenting approaches do not appear effective.

Through group skills training, caregiver coaching sessions, and family therapy; Dr. MacDur gives parents and caregivers the tools to better understand their child and create a change-ready family environment.

Dr. MacDur provides services for parents and caregivers of young children through young adults.

Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Values-Based Exposure Therapy

Considered the gold-standard treatments for targeting depression and anxiety, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and exposure therapy aim to create a change in emotions by changing one’s thoughts and actions. Dr. MacDur enhances these evidence-based treatments by helping clients also identify and understand their emotions, and take action towards their individual goals and values.
